Cleaning up Mining and Making Crypto Eco-Friendly

by | Jun 3, 2021 | Mining & Metals

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general have become one of the hottest investments around. Everyone is looking to get in on the action and not just buying, either. More and more people than ever are mining cryptocurrency.

But mining cryptocurrency is proving to be dangerous for the planet. That is why it is imperative to begin cleaning up mining. While that is easier said than done, there are steps that can be taken to ensure that mining in the future is done responsibly.

Making a Pledge

The first place to start in terms of cleaning up mining is to refine the rules of mining. By creating effective and progressive protocols, more and more mining companies can create a more eco-friendly environment for mining cryptocurrency.

Getting everyone on the same page will be difficult but it is important. Crypto mining is one of the most energy-consuming endeavors going on right now. Getting miners to adhere to regulations and guidelines will, no doubt, be difficult.

Setting Environmental Standards

First and foremost, mining companies need to hold themselves to international environmental standards regardless of where they are physically located. That means adhering to rules of climate change and things such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The goal should be to have zero mercury, cyanide, or chemical contamination of the environment. Sorting should be mercury-free. There are so many things that can be done to help the problem and it is a matter of taking the right action.
