Is An Electric Hand Dryer The Next Green Initiative?

by | Oct 6, 2017 | Business

For many years, dryers have been in bathrooms along with paper towels to give people a choice. Over half of these restroom users prefer cloth or paper towels over an electric hand dryer, which is why companies have been slow on the uptake. However, many state and federal initiatives have been enacted to encourage people to use environmentally-friendly products. Some states even require it, and many federal buildings do, as well.

Changes And Improvements

When the electric hand dryer first came about, they were clunky, loud, and took forever to do their job. People immediately wrote them off, but new improvements have changed the way these dryers work and sound. Most of them are whisper-soft, which means they can’t be heard outside the restroom area. Likewise, they have sped up the dry times to about 10 seconds (sometimes less) to get completely dry hands.

Costs

Facilities everywhere try to cut down the costs as much as possible and have strict budgets. Only so much money is allotted to drying methods. Most managers and owners avoided the dryers like the plague, thinking they were too costly.

However, studies have recently shown that an electric hand dryer could cost less than paper or cloth towels over the long run, depending on how many you need and the quality. Companies also want efficiency when it comes to time and financials, and these dryers work on both fronts. For example, they can cost thousands of dollars, but you don’t have to get the most expensive one. If you choose something energy efficient, you won’t have higher utility bills and will reduce all the costs that paper towels have. Employees and customers will get their business done in the restroom quicker because of the shortened dry times, making these dryers the best choice.
