Guidelines on How to Pick a New Church

Finding a new church to attend is an important decision, and one you do not want to base on a whim. Maybe you are on a business trip, or vacation, and you still want to attend mass. Sometimes, though, you may be dissatisfied with your current parish or maybe you are going to relocate to a new home.
Here are some guidelines on how to find a good church in Detroit.

What do they believe in?

If you are a traveler, then it’s easy to find a church. All you need to do is remember that you won’t be returning for more than a time or two during your trip. Then you can go back to your church. But if you just moved into a new home and are looking to attend a new church in Detroit, then find out what the group believes in. If the services see to be all about you being saved from sin and hell, then plenty of options offer that service, The Gospel Coalition says. What is important is: How does the good news shape your life? How can we apply those lessons in the way we interact with others? Look for that.

Observe their behavior

A church is a covenant community and you want to make sure the community behaves in a way that is consistent with and reflective of the teachings of the gospel. Do you see this when you attend the service? Do you see members of the community being mindful of this vision? That is the kind of church you’ll want to join.

Focus on what’s important

If you love the teachings, the style of the services and the people, then that’s probably all that matters. Focus on the essentials. Join the church, love them and serve them. That’s going to help you get your worship at a new church off to a fantastic start.
