Before the bags are sealed off, they are usually filled with air, gases, or even a combination of the two. This step in the process services a couple of purposes. For one, the air provides additional protection. This reduces damage to the products inside. Gases are inserted into the bag to prevent bacteria from growing therefore prolonging an items shelf life.
