Flooring in large workplaces, production and manufacturing facilities, fabrication plants and in warehouses is usually concrete. Unless treated or covered in some way, concrete is not a durable surface. As a foundation material, it is exceptional for strength, but the surface of the concrete is very easily damaged.
The Possible Solutions
There are several different ways to provide slight to significant protection to any concrete floor with heavy equipment traffic or the risk of damage. The least protection is offered with concrete paints, which only protect the surface from exposure to moisture and some types of weak corrosive materials. Paint does not protect from heavy equipment or items being dropped on the surface, that leaves surface dents, pitting and even cracks.
Epoxy and other types of industrial coatings offer a moderate level of protection and are a much better option than paint. These coatings do need to be replaced over time, and they often require significant curing and drying time before heavy equipment can be used on the surface.
