The Rich, Fast-Evolving State of Mexican Food Distribution in Connecticut

by | Jul 24, 2015 | Business

People throughout the Northeast do not just love Mexican food; they are also becoming far more sophisticated and discerning about what they eat. The lingering effects of the Tex-Mex explosion that rocked the country in the 1950s and 1960s are still very much in evidence. Today, though, Mexican restaurants that focus on and highlight different authentic regional cuisines are just as likely to be on the minds of locals.

This means that the face of Mexican Food Distribution in Connecticut area has changed, as well. With Tex-Mex cooking being relatively heavy in beef, dairy, wheat flour tortillas, and other ingredients that are typical of places where cattle ranching prevails, Mexican Food Distribution in the Northeast for many years focused on such products.

On today’s stage, though, a Mexican restaurant is just as likely to focus on food typical of the jungle-covered Yucatan peninsula or the mountainous, high-altitude regions around Mexico City. This means that Mexican Food Distribution in Connecticut has evolved quite a bit over the course of the last couple of decades in order to keep up with these exciting new developments.

Chile peppers in both fresh and dried form, for example, are now available in much greater variety than used to be the case. While the jalapenos and poblano peppers that are so important to Tex-Mex cooking are still invariably available, buyers can today also just as easily find habanero peppers, dried chiles de Arbol, and even tiny, wild little sequin peppers that pack a surprising punch.

The same goes for the whole range of other ingredients used in Mexican cooking. Distributors now often make a point of offering corn tortillas of various sizes made fresh every day, something that was rare to see when the flour-tortilla-focused Tex-Mex cooking was the norm in the United States. Even relatively exotic meats like goat and unusual cuts of pork and beef are now fairly easy to come by in many cases, allowing for the preparation of Mexican favorites like barbacoa, trips, menu and more. As people throughout Connecticut and beyond become even more fascinated with Mexican food, this already satisfying situation will only continue to improve.
