Having the ability to install piping systems quickly and in any type of condition is always important for Texas companies. Thanks to increasing developments in grooved piping products, the cost and the efficiency of these types of products make them a top choice for any company to consider.
Originally developed in the early 1900s, grooved piping was first marketed by The Victory Pipe Joint Company, but it is now marketed as Victaulic. There are also companies other than Victaulic that offer their own options in grooved piping products, but they all use the same general concept.
The Basics
As the name implies, the pipe itself features a groove. This groove makes coupling pipe together extremely easy, which is an important consideration in the Texas oil field industry.
With this groove, which creates an indentation around the end of the pipe and a lip area at the very end of the pipe section, both sides of the join are identical. There is a specially designed gasket that goes around the outside of this join, clamping into the two grooves to hold the pipe together.
Nuts and bolts are then used to tighten the gasket from the outside, providing a secure join of the pipe that cannot slip or pull apart. With a rigid coupling, there is no movement of the pipe, and it is held together securely as with a welded joint.
A flexible groove coupling can be used to allow slight movement of the two pipes while maintaining the seal at the joint. This is ideal in many types of applications where ground movement may need to be a consideration for the installation and maintenance of the pipe.
Supplying grooved piping products to the oil field in Texas is becoming a standard for most companies. Quality products are critical, as not all grooved piping systems offer the same quality of pipe, gaskets and related components.
