If you are ready to purchase new hay equipment in Indiana, you know what you buy matters. For example, if you are in the market for hay balers, there are several options to consider. Getting to know the types of hay balers can help you choose the one that best fits your needs. After all, being informed is half the battle. Some of the most common types of hay balers used today are found here.

The Round Baler

In the past, these were referred to as roto balers and are a popular type of hay equipment in Indiana. These produce the common, cylindrically shaped hay bales. A round baler will roll up the hay inside the rubber belts until it has reached the proper size. Then, the hay will be twined or wrapped to hold it together.

After the hay is secured, the bale will be removed from the machine and the hay will roll out. It’s important to note, the bales often weigh more than 2,000 pounds.

The Rectangular Baler

This baler is based on a design created in 1937. There are two primary types of balers, including the large rectangular baler, as well as a smaller baler. The smaller baler helps conserve space, and these are easy to stack together. Also, these are safer because there’s no risk they will roll off of a truck or another type of transport device.
