If you are looking for well-paid work as a language translator, there are several factors which can determine which languages can potentially lead to the highest pay. Where you live in the world can make a big difference, although this article assumes that you live somewhere in the US.
Japanese
Companies in both the US and Japan are constantly looking for qualified Japanese translators, as the two countries have partnerships in many areas, and there are also a lot of technology-related trade agreements. Mastering Japanese can be a challenge and if you live in the US and speak the language, your services will typically be in high demand.
Chinese
Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, and partly because of this, many companies in both countries are looking for good Chinese / English language translators.
German
Many companies will pay a competitive salary for good German translators, as it’s not really a widely spoken language in the US, despite the presence of some German-speaking communities across the country. Selling goods and services in an untapped and emerging market accounts for many of the German translators in the US.
Nordic Languages
Jobs that deal with Swedish and the other Nordic languages tend to be well paid, meaning anyone with fluency and looking for work as a language translator should consider these languages. And as Swedish, Danish and Norwegian are similar, if you are fluent in one, it doesn’t take too much to be near fluent in the other two, meaning more work opportunities.
Arabic
The oil industry has meant that jobs as an Arabic translator have been in demand, and now other industries are looking for translators, as communication between Middle Eastern countries and English speaking countries grows.
Here at Accurate Language Services, we can assist you with accurate translations to or from over 200 languages, including those mentioned above.
